Instructions for Life
  1. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

  2. Memorize your favorite poem.

  3. Spend some time alone.

  4. When you say, "I love you", mean it.

  5. When you say, "I'm sorry", look the person in the eye.

  6. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

  7. Believe in love at first sight.

  8. Never laugh at anyone's dreams.

  9. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

  10. The best way to double your money is fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

  11. The more you give freely, the more the low life will demand and expect.

  12. Almost every person is a good person worthy of friendship, but until you find their honest core most have a false face and will make being their friend far too expensive.

  13. Pick your battles and which hill you want to die on carefully.

  14. Often just saying and meaning no is the best answer.

  15. Never go shopping when hungry.

  16. Be careful of what you wish for, you might get it.

  17. The more stuff you own, the more it owns you.

  18. Decide on exactly what you want to buy before you go shopping.

  19. Remember we have a whole class of people who are incredibly good at convincing us to make bad decisions.

  20. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a stroke of luck.

  21. Buy or make quality then take very good care of it and it will serve you well.

  22. The bitter taste of poor quality lingers long after the sweet taste of low price is forgotten.

  23. Nothing beats having just the right tool to do the job properly.

  24. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

  25. Stop whining! The world is not fair, get over it.

  26. God has a strange sense of humor.

  27. History is the best predictor of the future.

  28. Don't judge people by their relatives, but remember when things go poorly these are the people you must rely upon.

  29. Only a fool expects someone who lives off others to behave honorably.

  30. Talk slow, but think quick.

  31. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?".

  32. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

  33. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

  34. Call your mom, dad, grandparents, brothers and sisters, anunts and uncles.

  35. Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.

  36. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

  37. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions.

  38. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

  39. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

  40. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

  41. When you realize you've been rude or unkind, immediately appologize and blame yourself even if the other person's actions provoked you.

  42. Marry a person you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

  43. Spend some time alone.

  44. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.

  45. Read more books and watch less TV.

  46. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll get to enjoy it a second time.

  47. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.

  48. Trust in God but lock your car.

  49. Treat your dog well for they are here to teach us unconditional love.

  50. A loving atmosphere in your home is so important. Do all you can to create a tranquil harmonious home.

  51. In disagreements deal with the current situation. Don't bring up side issues.

  52. Read between the lines.

  53. Be gentle with the earth.

  54. Pray. There's immeasurable power in it.

  55. Never interrupt when you are being flattered.

  56. Mind your own business.

  57. Don't trust a man or woman who doesn't close their eyes when you kiss them.

  58. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.

  59. If you make a lot of money, put it to use helping others while you are living. That is wealth's greatest satisfaction.

  60. Learn the rules then break some.

  61. Someday you're going to die anyway, so why kill yourself? You could miss some really fascinating, wonderful experiences.

  62. Remember that the best relationship is one where your love for each other is greater than your need for each other.

  63. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

  64. Remember that your character is your destiny.

  65. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.
